From what I've seen airbags have two wires. From what I've been told if one of the gets shorted to ground, it'll pop the charge. Now I believe the BCM test the airbags for function/connection, so just unplugging it will probably set of a light. However, you maybe able to bypass the airbag, maybe put a fuse in to fool the computer into thinking it's still active.
I thought dealers could install the passenger airbag defeat feature on Supercab models. I'm probably wrong and it only pertains to regular cabs but there IS a module that can do it...whatever that's worth.
At some point in time, they added a cutoff switch for the passenger side airbag to the Supercab models.
My '01 has it.
The logic is, you might have to give a ride to someone who can be hurt by the air bag. If you have a regular cab, or a Supercab, a child seat has to be put in the front passenger-side seat.
In a crew-cab, you have the option to put it in the back seat, so they didn't put a cut-off switch on crew-cabs.
I think - THINK - that in '01 they added the switch to the Supercab because they figured out you couldn't put a child seat in the rear of a Supercab.
There have been people that got their ABS module reprogrammed with the regular cab, or supercab firmware, and installed the switch, and they now have a cutoff switch.
But at the time, Ford would not "officially" do that reprogramming, you had to befriend a tech. Now, with more computers involved, I don't think it's even possible anymore, and you'd have to find a junkyard ABS module from a reg or super-cab.
