I finished the rebuild of the 300 six cyl that I am going to put in the 69 N600 this week. I still am looking for the correct oil filter though. I need one the has the nipple on it with threads to screw into the block. Anyone know where I can get one of these?
I get the cab back from the sandblasters on Monday. I should get the frame back on Wednesday. My next goal is to put new brake lines, wheel cylinders, master cylinder, and the booster (hydrovac?) which mounts under the cab. I have no been able to find that part number either. I have ordered a book, but it has not arrived.
Any help would be appreciated.
Oh..I also set up my mig welder this week. I picked up the argon as well. I am going to use it to weld new panels into the cab, but I am going to practice on scrap first.
Kevin, what year 300-6 are you using? All of the 300s I have built, the nipple stays in the block and the filter canister screws onto it. All the filters that I have seen have female threads. Possibly find a junk I-6 and remove the nipple from it. Hope this helps.
Yes
You need a filter adapter. Onr end threaded to fit the block and the other to fit the filter. It uses the same Ford filter they have used for years.
Probably still available from Ford or easy to find in any old block.
Hey, got that block all shinned up, and ready to bust off.Good luck with the MIG, still looking for one, have never welded a MIG but like you, ready to learn, everyone says, it's easy to learn. Hope to hear about the test ride real soon.
Mike
Ford will likey still have the filter adapter. As to the hydrovac? (If you were asking about that) Napa has them, and has a book full of them, I even found one for the 53 F-750 (and they had it in stock).
Looks like you may be ''truckin'' real soon,Kevin!!
I am back and will start back as soon as my back gets better!!
Better get some snow -chains for that 69--haha!!! JUST KIDDIN' Bill

Just a note on the MIG welding. You mentioned getting Argon. Hopefully you got the Argon/CO2 mix. Pure Argon is best for aluminum. The mix usually comes in a 75%/25% or 80%/20% mix. Either is good for steel body panels. Get the smallest wire your machine will run. Practicing on scrap is a good idea. That way you can expirement with current settings, wire feed rate, and gas flow. Be carefull not to work in a direct draft or wind as it will effect the gas shield around your weld, but you still need adequate ventilation so you won't be breathing any more of the gas than absolutely necessary. Getting your wire feed roller tension is also important. Too litle tension, it slips, too much and you can get a real mess around the feed rollers when the wire sticks at the gun. They sell a product called nozzle dip and also in a spray can that helps with the sticking problem. Any good welding supplier has it. Finally, always try to keep your feed line to your gu as straight as possible. The more twists and turns it makes, the greater chance of the feed wire getting bound up. Good luck with the practicing.
Thanks Dave. I did get the 80/20 mix. I still need to hook up the receptacle yet. I will be doing that tomorrow. The sandblaster still has not started on my truck yet. I talked to him this morning and asked him to do the frame first. I will then run new brake lines and such. The hydrovac and master cylinder will be in tomorrow morning to the parts store. The starter and alternator will be done Wednesday. Frank said he was blasting my frame at 9:30 tomorrow and will be done in about four hours. He is then going to paint it in the afternoon. I hope to pick it up Wednesday at 10.00 am. I need to measure the brake drums to see if they are 14" or 15" so I can order the wheel cylinders.
I am ordering the patch panels today. I hope to have them by end of week. Next Monday will be a big day for me I hope to have everything back by then. I will then need to order a new ez wire kit.
Sounds like it is coming along pretty quick. Make sure to use the smallest wire you can for sheet metal. .023 Smaller wire less heat, less heat less chance of distortion. I also like ESAB's easy grind wire. Seams softer and grinds easier - again less heat. Spoolarc Easy Grind
If you have a chance you should cruise the web looking for MIG welding basics videos. utube has a few.
