I just bought my son a 1965 F250 and we're doing some work on it together. I'm the mom and stereotypically ignorant. The mechanic who rewired it said we needed to find a Multi-function switch so the electrical would work right. Any leads on this "classic" part that the mechanic can't track down??
Hi and i'll say welcome to FTE personally i've never heard of it. Is there anything obviously missing from the dash say Ignition switch or under the dash on the left there should be a fuse box against the firewall. Check under the hood for disconnected wires on the inner fender maybe. I could be wrong but i'm sure if someone knows they'll chime in.

JN, You need to find someone else to do that work, he doesn't have a clue. He very well could be very good with a wrench, but electrical on old Ford trucks aint his field.
Some of these joes can blow a lot of smoke up your skirt. IMHO

JN, First and Formost, welcome to FTE!! As other members have noted, aint heard of 'multifunction switch'. Not going to make any uncomplimentary comments about your mechanic in the event he/she is related. Does not sound like it's an original switch, may have installed an aftermarket wiring kit, in that case, it would seem manufactured would be able to recommend what is needed. Also, not sure if there is a waiting period before 'newbies' can post pic's to their gallery, certainly worth a try, then perhaps a member can provide additional info, and or, advise.
There is a possibility the mechanic (?) was talking about the turn signal switch, if the truck has an original type steering column in it. If that is the case, they are readily available through most of the suppliers that advertise here.
If there has been a later model / different brand column, anything is possible.
