Odds are, if you fill the crack, sand it down and paint it. It will crack again, temperature variation alone will do it! BUT.....you can pull the panel out, put some two-part epoxy or liquid nails on the back side of the crack to strengthen the panel from behind to prevent recracking. Fill the crack, sand, paint and it should hold up. In theory.
pull dash bezel, then from the back side use some 5 minute plastic 2 part Epoxy, after it sets (5 mins) you may have to sand a little seepage from the front, have a can of interior spray paint handy, and touch up any other blemishes.
total cost $4 for the epoxy, and your time.
EDIT: Chris beat me to it, but I have done it, and mine is still holding.
