I have always liked black rims and didnt want to buy new ones so I decided to paint the ones I already have. They were one the truck when I bought it so it was either 8hrs and $10 a wheel or $600+....so I opted for the cheaper choice. I will eventually get some black headlights and PTM the door hadles to finish it off. Anyway I am really pleased with the results, I know black isnt for everyone but I love it!
Anyone ever paint their factor aluminum wheels? And put little stick on chrome buttons around the outter edge to simulate bead locks? And it so, does anyone have any pics?
OK Indebt...how did you do it? One wheel at a time, or did you put the truck on jack stands and paint all 4 together? I say that assuming that you removed the wheels from the truck. Did you paint them while still mounted?
I love black wheels also, and the CFO (wife) will never let me buy new wheels.
Looks good nicely done. I like the simulated beadlocks on those rims too a nice touch with the black paint. Or are those real beadlocks, either way they add a nice accent to the whole tire and rim combo.

I jacked up the fornt end and removed both wheels then took a whire wheel and scuffed the rims up. After cleaning with mineral spirits I masked off the tires and sprayed the primer (2 thin coats) while waiting for them to dry I replaced the front brake pads. Once they were dry I used 4-5 thin coats of color (some choose to sand with 240-320 grit sand paper but I was happy with the testure of the primer dry so skipped this step) while I waited for the color to dry I sprayed the caps and found other things to do . I wanted a flat black look and couldnt find any flat clear so I found some enginge enamel clear that didnt say semi gloss. It was exactly what I was looking for and did scare me a little cuz it went on pretty bright. However when it dried it was not very glossy at all and was the look I was after. I spent under $40 for the supplies so you cant beat $10 a wheel for the look and it took a total of 8 hrs to do all four wheels.

no they are simulated. I was hoping the whole bead lock ring came off but it was a one piece simulated look. The good was that the bolts did actually come off so I removed them and soak them in degreaser to clean them while I painted the whole rim. I was debating masking of the bead lock ring to leave it polished , but I think it turned out great! Thanks for the compliments guys!
