Column shifter change

For some weird reason, the black **** on the end of the shifter has a crack in it. Was thinking of having a nice alloy replacement turned for it but I cant see how I can remove it, if it can actually be removed without causing carnage?

You can't remove it without destroying it.

Turn down a piece of aluminum in a lathe and then drill and tap it for a set screw.

I'm guessing its a spline shaft with the plastic molded around it? Cut it off then turn one or find someting you like (8 ball=tacky) and drill a hole in it. JB weld should hold it forever if you drill it for a snug fit.

Sometimes you can remove them, and other times you have to remove the arm and smash the plastic end on the pavement to get it off. It is just splined on there.
