sloppy shifter
my trucks shifter has alot of play. even when in gears, it feels like the tranny is in neutral. it was tolerable for a while, but i removed the shifter handle when i was doing the clutch yesterday, reinstalled it, and now its really bad. what can i do about this? can i find a new shifter? i have thought about a hurst shifter but i dont want to ruin the aesthetics of the truck. i dont really want a short throw either.

You should take apart the shifter where it goes into the transmission and check the shift pins - these break off or get worn down pretty often on the Mazda transmission your truck has.

took another look today. the bolt that holds on the shifter has a funky shape to it. i put it back in the wrong way. took it out, spun it around, and its good as new after i tightened it up. thanks for the tip about the shift pins tho (you also lead me to find the problem)
