I put a new set of springs in the rear of my 82 F100 the other day, and I got kinda curious about flipping the shackle mounts so the shackle would be on the bottom, so a longer shackle would mean more lift, anyone try this?

Somebody out there makes this kit for ch*vies, I think they are offroad design? I've seen them in some of the 4x4 rags. They take the shackle, beef it up and then do a flip on the frame so that it is in compression rather than tension, they get about 4" of lift. No word on if they will make them for us guys. The reason they re-work them is due to the fact that you're now running them in the reverse-not made to have the loads placed on them this way. I think they will take this type of loading(seems to me it would be able to take more)but, we have this thing called lawsuits that sometimes make it hard for a good idea to come to be. If you find anyone that can or will do this, please let us know! Would be interested in this myself(already broke one shackle!). Chuck P.
I'm going to have to have a look at that, I might just do some reworking myself, or maybe use shackles meant for something else that are strong enough and will do the trick, I'll let you know if I find something.

you can use your stock mounts. the bolt pattern is the same either way. I dont think you will have to stiffen any thing. but it will "Lower" your truck unless you make longer shackles.
The mounts can't be flipped on my 82, the bolts are almost in a V pattern, but, it looks like there might be holes there already that will allow the mount to be installed the other way 'round, and it wouldn't lower the truck much with the stock shackles, but if I do flip them, I am going to use longer shackles.

I have seen this done.....it was in an off road mag on a older Ford....and he used the stock springs Shackle's.....here is what the artical read..."The F-100 ramps a 1000 thanks in part to 17 of rear-axle flex. Rick says his shackle inversion cost $10. He bought a pair of rear-spring front hangers at a wrecking yard and riveted them to the frame in place of the rear hangers. He reused the stock rear shackles and the stock rear springs. His inversion setup nets 4 inches of suspension lift......" To give credit....it was out Petersen's 4Wheel & Off-Road, Vol. 22, Number 11, pg. 60. If you can get a hold of the artical....its give a pic and it seem simple enough. the year of the truck is a '76 and its a bad A!!! This is one of the nicest rigs i have seen! Hoped i could help!
