What is different between the 240 and 300 other than the stroke, are the cams the same? compression ratios, combustion chambers, heads, pistons etc. I just picked up a 66 240 that could donate some parts to my 82 if it would up performance.

The 240 uses longer connecting rods, which, when used with shorter pistons, gives you a better rod/stroke ratio. This helps the air and fuel burn more completely which yields more power. A Mustang Magazine built a 351W with 11.0 compression, longer connecting rods (300 rods), and ran 87-octane fuel. It pulled over 400 HP.
I believe the head from a 240 has a much smaller combustion chamber than one from a 300,which meens by using a 240 head on a 300,it willi ncrease your compression and power.
The only two basic differences I know of are connecting rods and crank. The 240 has shorter rods, and a different crank. All else is essentially interchangable.... same head, same cam, same carb, same block, etc.
