Or go to www.dieselfiltersonline.com get the same exact product for a TON less even after you pay for shipping. Plus, it gets delivered straight to your door step.

Actually the best deal is the one I gor a couple months ago right on this very site from another member...... 14 FRAM (Repackaged Racor) for a whopping $50 bucks....Yeah about the same price as as 14 from pep boys would be BUT didnt have to go to pepboys (which we dont have) and fight the the counter-person to get them to give me that deal on these filters (Ive never done it, just read on here that some have had troubles getting them to honor it on these perticular filters)

That's the deal I need. OK, I'll give $50 bucks for, get this, only 10 filters. See, that's an even better deal for someone with 10 spare filters.

So, let's jump back to those billet caps. Everyone has a coronary if you don't use an OEM filter, so where do the guys who speak so strongly of it stand on these caps? I'm just curious since I was actually thinking about it this morning pondering the idea of an oil temp gauge.

Brad,

I was wondering the same thing. I know and understand the issue with aftermarket oil filters not being the exact spec, and also understand that problems showing up from that can take years to surface (sometimes quicker).

If according to all the info just a few thousands of an inch with the non-factory filters can cause issues, certainly an aftermarket oil cap that is also off a few thousands of an inch could do the same damage. Not only would the distance the filter goes up inside and stop against the cap be critical, BUT more importantly the relationship of the cap to the engine would be just as critical.

To me it is simple, are the dimensions of the cap identical to the stock one or not. Sure the outside looks etc can be different, but the inside and the relationship of the inside to the base of the engine better be exact or it is no different than an incorrect filter.

When I just hear I got one and I have no problems that doesn't seem encouraging. I am sure a bunch of perople have said the same using aftermarket filters...at first.

Concerning gauges you might want to consider finding an Edge (Evolution or Insight) used on Ebay for cheap. This will give you EGTs, and every other type of engine info you could want (plus more). Installation is a snap, the only thing you need to add to the engine is the EGT probe. I also like that the dash pod doesn't interfere with the grab handle on the a-pillar. I lucked up and got a nice used Evolution for $157 which is cheaper than buying just a good EGT guage setup. My standard 4 "gauge" display on it is EGT, Trans Temp, Engine Cooolant Temp and Engine Oil Temp. Plus, it seems to be a better Code Scan tool than my SCT as the Edge will see Codes that the SCT doesn't see. Of course the SCT is hands down the best for custom tuning.
