I was changing my motor oil to synthetic in my 6.0. I had a local garage do the last change, as I was too busy. They used a carquest filter that was one piece with the cap and o ring. This is kinda cool, but I bought a regular cartridge filter and the garage threw out my cap. I had the oil in a bucket, and the truck disabled. I called carquest, and they delivered a oil filter kit so I could get on with my day. It was $31 after tax instead of $24 reusing my old cap.
Probably already mentioned by someone, but it is new to me. Just thought I would share a heads up. It was a bit of a pain, but it would have been much worse for someone who lives further out of town.
Go back to your local garage that threw your cap away and make them replace it at their cost. They should have given it back to you.
No joke. That "will fit" junk "will hurt" your engine. This is why I'd never take my truck to a lube joint to change the oil. Being "too busy" can cost you quite a bit of money in the long run. Order you an OEM cap from Ford and get a Racor/Motorcraft filter asap.
I have the filter. I purchased the motorcraft version. The dealership had to order a cap. I won't lose much oil changing the filter out. It will be in Monday. The local garage is my farm and commercial tire store. Its not worth not getting a tire repaired on Sunday on a tractor for the $. I do agree with the principle, that they should have given the cap back to me.
Wondering out loud... since the fit of the Oil filters are SO critical, does anyone know for sure these billet caps are EXACTLY like the stock caps?
Since a slight difference in filter height can cause so many problems I would assume the same would happen with these caps if they are not EXACT in everyway, especially on the underside where the filter goes against it..

I purchased this one from Elite Diesel and have had no problems.
I always go to the the Ford dealer for my oil, air, fuel, and both transmission filters. My truck is for recreation so I don't mind any price increases at the dealer.
It will rain today, so I will have time to pick up the cap. I do have an IH dealer in town. I will call and see how much cheaper it is there. The dealership parts department said they normally keep a couple of caps in stock. They didn't have one, so they may not hold me to taking it. I can ask!

The last time I checked the International part number is 1840754C91. The part number could have been updated, but they still should be able to track it down from that number...
