Reflash?
Drive to Clean Exhaust System
Cleaning Exhaust Filter
Exhaust Filter Drive Complete
Drive to Clean Exhaust System isn't going to be displayed as long as your normal driving includes a point that you drive long enough for DPF regenerations to occur.
I have shut mine off several times when it has been in regen. It has started back into regen next drive cycle with the latest flash; with the old flash it would return to regen or not. Ultimately I drive it long enough for it to complete the regen. As I understand the documentation; if I never drive it long enough for it to reach operating temperature and complete the regen (and the DPF pressure sensors are indicating same) then it is going to continuously display Drive to Clean Exhaust System. It is at this point you drive around in circles or better yet hit the nearest highway since you are suppose to drive above 30 MPH for 20 minutes. Also when the system has requested you to Drive to Clean Exhaust System; it will also continuously display Cleaning Exhaust Filter until same is complete.
For normal driving, if the truck goes into regen, the display will briefly display Cleaning Exhaust Filter. I'm not sure how long or short briefly is; as I haven't seen it automatically displayed. Since having the latest flash, I have been able to confirm it is in regen using the display by pushing SETUP, then RESET to view the status of the vehicle. The last status item following fuel tank level will be the Cleaning Exhaust Filter if it is in regen.
Since getting the newest flash mine has gone into regen while I am on my way to work in the morning. Just like before the reflash, I get to work and shut it off. Ultimately I am going to drive it long enough for it to complete the regen. So far I haven't hit the point the truck is telling me I need to drive it to clean the exhaust filter. Fact is, when I got home this evening it was in regen. I don't see me making a trip longer than 15 minutes till Friday.
Mine does about one regen every tank of fuel or about every 400 miles since new. Currently at 26,000 miles. Tailpipe tips remained clean as new first 18,000 miles; now they like any ole diesel. So I believe the DPF is cracked but the dealer.........
I don't believe the flash has improved my fuel economy but I haven't really checked my records. The truck does run smoother. I like being able to confirm the truck is in regen with the display. It pulled my fifth wheel better; but I have another post on that; might just be the new fiver tires.
The new flash doesn't allow regen to initiate or begin while in idle. One of the things about DPF failure is incomplete regen allowing some soot to remain resulting in hot spots and cracking during future regens. There is a thread on here with some links to this info. The new flash changes the way EGR is disabled at idle; was based on time, now based on exhaust temperature. I can't help but think the Ford engineers are changing the program to help eliminate some of the possible reasons for DPF cracking??
ON EDIT
it looks like Ford is changing the display to continuously display CLEANING EXHAUST FILTER.

Great change, and the way it ought to be.
