I want to replace my Y-pipe but try to keep it street legal in PA. I would like one high flow catalytic converter. Bassini makes a one piece Y-pipe with one cat but I don't think that it fits my truck. Does anyone have any additional information about a Y-pipe for my truck? I will probably also replace the headers when I replace the Y-pipe. I currently have a Flowmaster cat back exhaust and a K&N intake. I am also going to purchase a power programmer.
I have a 99 F-150 XLT, ext cab, short bed, 5.4, 4x4.
However, this unit really doesn't flow better than the stock one. I can't find anyone who makes a true high flow part for this application yet. The Ford trucks are complicated as far as cats are concerned, the parts on first glance look the same, but between '97 and '04 Ford uses 12 different assemblies based upon 2WD or 4WD, which engine, which cab, FED or CA, etc. As a result only some of the most common ones are available aftermarket.
My advise is that you leave the stock cats alone, and instead use a better y-pipe where they joint together. That combined with the headers will make a difference.
So the high flow cats aren't any better than the stock ones? You also said you would recommend replacing the Y-pipe but leaving the cats alone. On my truck, the 4 cats are part of the Y-pipe.
