I am about to change my water pump because it is starting to leak fluid. When the engine is cold, it will leak and when I crank it up it flows a little faster then stops. My question is, should I do any added maintenance while I am in the area. I have a van so I have to take the front end off to do this. I want to do everything I can, that I should while I'm there. Thanks for the help
I have never even seen under the hood of a PSD Van. With that said it would be a good time to remove the EBP sensor and tube and clean them out if clogged. Check the tube for any holes. They somtimes get small pin holes so check it good. New thermostat, o-ring and housing would be a good idea. You probably thought of that already. Does the upper radiator hose go through the serp belt or around it. If it goes through the belt find out if you can get one that goes around. Check all the accessory pulleys, the idler pulley and the belt tensioner for play and that they turn freely. Well I just ran out of ideas. Hopefully a Van owner will chime in. Good luck with the pump R & R.
I had to change the water pump in my 2000 E350 PSD earlier this year. You'll need to remove the air box and the radiator. While I was in there, I replaced all the hoses, the belt tensioner and the idler pulley and flushed the radiator.
not sure if the thermostat is near the water pump or in the bottom of the radiator on the vans, but might as well change that and its little gasket too... don't want leaks from there too...
Well, I just finished a little bit ago. I am glad I got the thermostat because it is on top of the pump. It was quit the job but glad I did it, saved a lot of $$$$. There was only one problem. After I was all done and let the van run a while, I looked under for any leaks and found the little cover with the half inch seap hole on the ground. I am not sure if I should put it back on or not. If I do, I will have to do the job all over again to pop that little cover back on. Only to fall off in the future. I made sure it was on good berfor install. I think I will leave it off.
On a side note, I did an oil change and tried some Lucus Full Senthetic Oil additive. I found that my engine starts soooo much faster with that stuff in. I recommend it.
Thanks for the help!
Here is a test of Lucas Oil Additive from Bobistheoilguy LINK . You may want to know what that additive does and make up your own mind about using it again.
