Looks like the heads aren't original to the block/manifold. Like I said I knew it wasn't original and needed work. Ends up #'s 5&6 have broken rings. No ridge in the cyls. A little normal bearing wear. Tchain worn out. Just normal stuff for a 34yr. old engine. Pistons look great and probably original. No bore job. I like the floating pins. They have a 410 cast on the pin side if that means anything. I work a 4 day week, 12-14hrs a day so it's hard to get to this on work days. I'll get further into it wed. Time to start measuring things and get a plan together. This is going to be fun. I love bowties but tired of wrenchin' on the same old thing. Later.
It's going to be used as a serious trail rig w/occasional trips to the county fairs for braggin' rights in the pits. We have quite a few large trail areas close to me and a pay to play called Powerline Park which holds sanctioned events. Had to order all the parts I have so far. Advance and Auto Zone stock zilch for this thing. Someone give me some input on cam selection and how to keep valvetrain geometry correct. Jegs lists only one truck type cam by Crane and I haven't seen anything yet in Comp Cams Xtreme truck cam line for FE. There are some nice goodies out there for the shaft mount rocker assemblies which I've no experience with. Never done a Dodge either. Got my heads ready to start on but had to work on the grandsons 4wheeler today. Gotta keep the kid happy and interested in this stuff.
No 460 4WD's till 1983, and these were all F350's.
Dunno why, but there were no 4WD's available from the factory w/390's. Not in 1968, not in 1976, not ever.
I don't know why they wouldn't have installed them in 3/4 ton and heavier but I don't think that the mickey mouse single speed transfer cases in the half tons take very much torque. Thats the only thing I have been able to come up with.

Unless you count F600's, there was nothing heavier than a F250 4WD till 1979, when Ford introduced the first F350 4WD.
Buddy76, Check out a post in "combining a 360 and a 390" I briefly wrote about how the STOCK valve train geometry is set up.
Yours may not be stock. I am impressed, someone who knows valvetrain geometry even exists!
