I just traded for a '76 F150 4X4. 390/4sp./NP205/9"rear/hi pinion 44 front. I've never been a Ford guy, but really wanted to do something different this time. Logged on here and got an education. This truck will be off road only. The ol' FE had issues so I tore into it today. Man, that intake is heavy! I had 2cyls. w/bad compression. Ended up being broken rings. Measured the stroke @ 3.75 now I'm a happy man w/broken 390. I like the looks of all the beef in this thing! Gonna go for as much torque as possible to turn 38.5X15X15 G'hawgs. This engine is definately not the original from what I've read here. 4bbl. intake#'s are D4TE 9425CB, also has 4030 and 307. Heads are D2TEAA. Block is D4TE. I'll be buying a kit soon to freshen it up and add some horses. Gotta' borrow my neighbors desktop dyno for some compares. Any comments or suggestions? By the way, this is one cool site w/untold wealth of info. Thanks!
Bud, where do you live ? Someplace ethanol 85 is available ? Once you lick your fuel to burn, we can help you pick pieces to help you use it best. First and most importantly, you need headers. Tell us more and we'll have more answers. Sounds fun. DinosaurFan
I'm from WV. Most ethanol here gets drank. Surely I didn't say that. Sick and tired of the same old hi compression chevy stuff we've been buildin' for the last 30yrs. Need a new fix. Hopefull this it it. At least it's not a 302! Back to work in the morning but I'll dig a little deeper into it later this week. Kinda lookin' forward to the challenge.
Remember that the pistons go in line 1-2-3-4 on a ford not cross 1-3-5-7 like a chev. Just kiddin ua oughta know that if ya been buildin em for that long. Im still tryin to work some of the bugs out of the 390 I built and rebuilt three times.
He says in the original post that the engine is not original based on what he has read in FTE. Jowilker is just saying that it is a truck 390. I think?
Yes sir, I was referring to all of the T parts as a truck engine. That is the big reason I don't like decoding vins. All that number can tell you is how it left the assembly plant not what it is today.
Bear is just trying to show you why you don't mess with bears. lmao
