Fluids are getting kind of expensive. You might consider cleaning things up, sticking in a new air filter and make sure you don't have a dead cylinder (or two) before you start dumping a bunch of fluids in. Just my 2 cents.

yeah you right there, it will be worth it if it runs
Hey everybody, i finally got some pictures, i get the truck next thursday i cant wait to get it home. The air intake looks pretty bad, the further i got to it the turbo hose was cracked as if someone crushed it with a prybar, i cleaned the inside and when i get it its gettin a bath lol.
Good luck with this. It doesn't look good, but I've seen worse. Make sure any cracks or openings are at least taped up before it's driven. When you get it, check out the turbo wheel to see what it looks like. You might also pull the drivers side IC pipe (silver pipe with foil on it that goes from the turbo towards what looks like the radiator). You will see some oil in there which is normal, but look for signs of dirt or debris in that pipe.
no they dont, the dealer claims that it needs injectors but i dont really believe that if that was the case it would have been fixed i would think, but worst thing is i can drop another engine and use it for my computer work truck but who knows i bought it for more experience on how to work on this engine.
Hope it all goes ok

Let us know what you find.
Thats one thing i did do, i found the bad turbo pipe cause i was itching to see what the turbo looked like it actually looks ok it does have a small bit of movement i ordered a replacement pipe for the turbo, i managed to get one pipe off the intercooler and it looked ok to had clean oil but inside the manifold pipe didnt look good it was nasty im suppoed to change the oil soon and i got 2 batteries i hope to have it fired in the next few days
Was the play in and out, or up and down? A little up and down is OK as long as it doesn't touch the housing. I discovered a crack on the intake tube on one of my work trucks. There was minor dusting of the wheel, but everything else seems ok. No signs of excessive blowby, and no issues my scanner can find. Maybe there's hope for your new one.
I'm glad you were able to get a new tube ordered. I spent 45 min. at the parts counter trying to explain which tube I needed. They kept trying to sell me the one that attaches to the filter instead of the one that attaches to the turbo. I had to take the parts guy outside twice to show him which tube I needed. The sad part is, this was a fleet only dealer that specializes in diesel trucks.

Nothing touched the housing thank goodness, I rubbed my finger inside of it and it wasnt bad at all, i think the turbo is ok. Sorry on your problem at the dealer but what i did is i took that part off and put it in their hands lol.
I am gonna borrow the air intake off my good diesel and put it on this truck and get a better system for the other 7.3 that way i know its gonna be ok
hey guys i just wanted to let ya know i got the truck in my possession now, it gets paid off friday, i got the truck on the ford computer and it gave me a blame IDM Failure, does anyone know where i can get one at a good price, thanks for any help.

FYI. Wiring problems and bad injectors can also throw codes for the IDM. I'd recommend making sure the IDM is bad before spending the money.
Yeah i thought that to, what happened was this truck was in a fleet and when i first looked at it a corner of the housing was broke and it had unfiltered air in it. Its not a flood the inside is in good shape and its not rusted, even though im located in Hattiesburg, Ms. I wanted to rebuild the engine myself for the experience and plus i got another 2001 7.3 that alot of parts could be used for. I just didnt know if this was something i need to do.

I second this - strongly.
A loose wire for an injector will give a P1316 bad IDM code.
I can tell you that from personal experience, it happened to me one day after I started my truck back up after just having been inside the valve covers.
Had to go back in and find the plug that I knocked off of #1 injector as I was re-installing the VC.
Dang, aight im gonna retest it, im glad i saved my old gaskets from the other 7.3 even though they worked they got replaced cause the whole fuel system was new in it
