OK GUYS>..............My 99 250 SD 7.3 isn't running very well. Not like it did when I first loaded the tuner. It's the only mod so far besides besides getting rid of the early 99 "killer airbox" The truck just has lots less power than it did, mileage just a little off ...but no real giddy up like it did....used to be able to scorch the rears and now I get scared trying to merge onto the freeway with friggin' econobox's! I pulled a code P1221...don't know what it is. Just seems like the tranny is shifting way harder than it should and not much boost. It had a wierd chirp when first taking off and I guess thats when I first noticed the ever dwindling performance.
hhmmm.... Don't think the code is related to your running crappy symptom. I googled it and came up with "Traction control system malfunction". Since you heard a weird air chirpy sound, I'd say go check all your boots.
Yeah...I did get that while towing a trailer with 2 scissor lifts and a bunch of pipe...I'll check the boots in the morning. Does anyone seel a kit to just replace them all?
Yes, you can buy new boots. Check out dieselsite.com -- about the best out there. BUT, unless your boots are in really bad shape, I'd just clean them up, tighten the clamps, and do the CCV mod to keep the oily junk out of there. But DON'T over tighten them! You can crack the I/C or crush tubes, so be careful.
Thanks Izzy! I'll do some tweaking this weekend......gonna also do the foil delete...mine's lookin nasty and gonna get some gauges maybe also. I just hate doin the mail order thing. Trying to find a local place to buy stuff
Well, I got my DiPricols from Dennis at ITP, and I've dealt with Bob at DieselSite too. They're top-notch guys. No worries about getting good stuff from them.
Ok guys....ecm threw 4 new codes at me today. I've already been having a power issue, but maybe this will explain it. Codes shown are...P0236, P1119, P1690, P0475
What kind of chip / tuner are you running. Do you have gauges where you can monitor boost pressure and EGT's? Cleaning out the EBP tube and sensor may help a little, but we'll need a better description of your problems and your mods to be of much more help.
P0236 Turbo Boost Sensor A Circuit Performance
P0475 Exhaust Pressure Control Valve Malfunction
P1119 Manifold Air Temperature Sensor High Input
P1690 Wastegate Control Valve Malfunction
For future reference, it might be more helpful to update info in the same thread (which will bump it back to the top of the list) so we see more of the background info.
First I'd like to ask why you think the 2000 air box is less of a killer than the 99 airbox?
I'd encourage you to remove the filter lid and inspect it and the intake tube for any signs of dust or dirt. The K&N has had issues with not sealing to the 99-03 airboxes properly, as well as having some filtration issues (especially at the higher boost pressures of a tuned truck).
Does your truck smoke any? If you mash on the go pedal, what color smoke do you see? Can you describe the chirp you heard? Did it sound like a high pitch squeel, maybe like a high speed wheel scraping against a housing?
Do you have a boost and EGT gauge? In my opinion (and many others), you're asking for trouble by getting a chip / tuner and not getting gauges to monitor your engine. If you read the fine print on the Edge box or the instructions, I'll bet you money it recommends installing gauges.
As for your other codes

P1119 Manifold Air Temperature Sensor High Input
P1690 Wastegate Control Valve Malfunction
They all seem to be related to the turbo. Some may have been caused by the tuner, but it sounds like it would be a good idea to pull the intake hose off the turbo and inspect the wheel. With the engine off, you should have VERY LITTLE up and down or side to side play, and NO in and out play. Also the fins on the wheel should have clean sharp edges, and there should be no signs of it rubbing against the housing. The stock turbo is only designed to handle 25 psi of boost.
If the turbo wheel checks out, we'll try to move through the trouble code diagnostics and see where that leads us.
I'm a Texas born and bred guy..........lived in and around San Antonio all my life.
Texas is a great state. I live just to the east of you. Chris said most of what I could of said. My only worry is the Edge tuner. You might want to take it off and see if things get better. You can see in most peoples sigs on here and get an idea what we run on our trucks. We like custom tunes, instead of off the shelf tunes.
Check the things that Chris said. I hope the turbo is not dusted. Good luck.
