Sup...... I was lookin for a simple work truck and came across one for 1500. its a 2001 F250 7.3 2WD Super Cab XLT Longbed. First question, the truck will not start, the air assembly looks bad mud is inside of the hose going to the turbo i didnt have my light so i couldn see it, i expect it needs an engine. Can i possibly rebuild a dusted motor and turbo.? What exactly do i need to do.
How much of the work are you wanting to do yourself? Another member recently found a pretty good deal on a short block. I know there are long blocks out there too. What kind of power are you wanting to make with it? If you plan on building it up, you'll need to make sure you don't use and of the PMR (powdered metal rods).
Although for $1500.00 it would be a decent purchace for getting the drivetrain out of it.
Rebuild the engine, transmission and keep the rear axle as spare for another truck.

Yeah i thought that to, what happened was this truck was in a fleet and when i first looked at it a corner of the housing was broke and it had unfiltered air in it. Its not a flood the inside is in good shape and its not rusted, even though im located in Hattiesburg, Ms. I wanted to rebuild the engine myself for the experience and plus i got another 2001 7.3 that alot of parts could be used for. I just didnt know if this was something i need to do.

Man, if the body and interior are in good condition, and I mean very good I'd snap that up in a heartbeat. You can't even find SD's in the junkyard for that kind of money. If I had the money I could be in Hattiesburg in less than 8 hours, maybe 9 tops.
Don't forget the engine oil. It has to be full since the oil fires the injectors, and of course there needs to be fuel. I'd pull the air intake tube and inspect the turbo wheel for play. I'm sure there are signs of dusting. Depending on how the wheel looks, put the truck on a set of jumper cables and shoot some wd-40 in the intake and see if you can get it started that way.
Also, since there are one or two electrical components involved, don't forget to check the fuses.
hey wesley i think two mississippi boys could handle it ha ha... i'm at a diesel school in tupelo so i can get a hold of everything we would need to do it!
