Also, anyone know the difference between an F250 and F350 for any given year of the same year Excursion? I'm guessing the payload of the Excursion is considerably less than the F250, or the F350 (even when the F250 and F350 were only different based on a rear block under the leaf springs). Is that chip getting bigger!!!
How much does an excursion weigh compared to a standard cab standard box (thats what the X is built off right?) F250? The roof, seats, glss, etc etc, is part of teh paylod in my opinion lol.
I don't know, how much? Yeah, maybe the gvwr is the same, you tell me. It seems the rear axle rating is the same as the F350, based on another post in this thread, 7000lbs, right? Wouldn't the Excursion be a 1-ton then?
No that not the way it figured. I actually don't exactly how pay load is figured to be honest with you.
My 03 Excursion Limited is tagged GVW 8100 or 8200 pounds I forget which) GVW meaning Gross Vehicle Weight.
The GVW is why tires are so expensive it takes a Load Range E tire for the Excursion.
The pay-load for a F-250 Crew-Cab is about 2360 pounds verse a little over 1700 pounds for the Excursion. I think the difference is partly because the overall weight of the Excursion would come into play.
GVWR should be the same, if they're the same. The GVWR includes the net weight of the vehicle, plus the weight of passengers, fuel, cargo (payload) and any additional accessories. If they are built the same, they should have the same GVWR. If the Excursion is the same as a F250, they should have the same GVWR. By the way, I'm not saying they're not, because I don't know; however, I also know that the F250 and F350 are virtually the same, so if an Excursion is built that same as a F250 (3/4-ton), it's also built virtually the same as an F350 (1-ton). Because of my Napolean complex, I'd refer to an Excursion as a 1-ton as much as I was going to refer to it as a 3/4-ton.
The following information if from the 2004 Sales books for all models. All comparisons are 4X4 4 speed auto and base trim. F series is 137" WB. Calculations are by taking the base weight of a 4X4 5.4 liter and adding the up weight for the V10 or Diesel fron the Payload/Option Worksheet. The V10 adds 103 lbs, and the diesel adds 683 lbs. Excursion weights are listed straight up and need no math.
BASE CURB WEIGHTS
............................V10..........Diesel
F250....................5931..........6511
F350....................5925..........6505
Excursion......,.......7230..........7770
(I do not know why, but the F250 base weight (before engine weight additions) is listed as 6 lbs heavier than the F350. It might be due to different emission requirements. But again, I don't know)
MAX GVWR
...........................V10..........Diesel
F250...................8800...........8800
F350...................9900...........9900
Excursion..........,..8900...........9200
It is interesting to note that the Sales Books have this statement in parenthesis with reference to the GVWR of the Diesel Excursion:
(Computer-selected - not to be advertised)
This is in reference to the Excursion diesel having a higher GVWR. Ford had to do this in order to maintain the same listed payload between the different engine options. Advertising it would be fodder for the environmentalists and might worry customers about power, weight, etc.
The pay-load for a F-250 Crew-Cab is about 2360 pounds verse a little over 1700 pounds for the Excursion. I think the difference is partly because the overall weight of the Excursion would come into play.
Exactly, and I think once you consider overall how much weight is carried on those wheels I think they will be shockingly similar.
I guess I'm wondering how or why an Excursion is built on an F250 platform and not an F350. Seems the payload/towing of the F250 and Excursion isn't the same, as it's not the same as the F350. Also if you compare the Excursion to the 99-04 Super Dutys then the Excursion is as similar to an F250 as it is to an F350, since the F250 and F350 are essentially the same during those years, no?
