Hey all. I have an 06 F-250 SC FX4. I've noticed that my dust seal for the front axle on the driver side is hanging loose and have been noticing a grinding sound when I turn the wheel left only. Not straight or to the right. I was wondering if this seal is related to the noise or if I need to look someplace else for the culprit. I just looked at my brakes all the way around and they are 50 up front and 75 on back. There is no side to side movement or up to down movement to the tires on either side when I had the front jacked up. Notice it to be a bit louder and more of a vibration when I'm towing a trailer and turning left. The noise is hard to pinpoint but the vibration seems to be coming mainly from the passenger side floorboard and some in the steering wheel. Not to drag this on just thought I would give all the detail I could in hopes one of you gurus could help out. Thanks ahead of time to anybody taking the time to help!
Had the same problem with my '03. I jacked it up and removed the tire. I couldn't find anything; no wobble in the bearings and the brakes looked good.
I drove it a while longer and then deceided to pull the brake pads out and check it.
I found it. The anti-rattle clip at the top of the pads (the U-shapped one 2" long or so) had somehow slipped out and was trapped between the caliper and the rotor. I pulled it out (what was left) and replaced it with one I had kept from changing the brakes on my wife's Ex.
It was a funny thing, it you would only here it when you made a left turn.
Thanks Ill check into that.I installed new rotors and pads about a month ago so there is a good chance that this may be my problem.Ill check it over the weekend
i had a similar problem.grinding noise turning left only. for me it was the exhaust pipe was very close to the frame.right where it starts to turn up towards the motor.the pipe was really close to the frame rail and during a left turn it would make contact and make the noise. i used a pry bar to give it more clearance.

It may be I put a 5 inch exhaust system on it then a few weeks later I installed a leveling kit.
