Get a 4" exhaust with 3" downpipe, DIY intake with a 6637 air filter. Get gauges (pyro, boost, tranny temp), Do the C00n style 10k or 15.5k mod.
Then you get to have fun after that:get a chip from TW, get DIY injectors from rosewood diesel, get a H2e turbo, man this is starting to sound familiar, then get a clutch from Valair or tranny from BTS. OK now is time for studs, head studs then main studs do a girdle...
Sorry I was getting away from myself there for a moment. Definately start with the first paragraph for the economy mods. Then you will probably want a chip and maybe injectors to go with the chip...wait a minute here I go again.
Sorry for the long post.
That filter can be bought at NAPA but they are around $50.00 there. Look at fleetfilters.com and they will ship it to you and still be cheaper than NAPA. But if you do buy it at NAPA tell them you are an AAA member and you may get a discount.
The intake only takes the filter and a shrt piece of 4" pipe bent at 45*
That would be the 6637 intake in Neal's signiture. The Wix number is 46637. As for his first paragraph, X2. As for the second paragraph, PMS (Powerstroke Mod Syndrome) will set in soon enough.
As for the exhaust, I just found a wrecker that did school busses and the exhaust pipes from the diesels are all 4" mandrel bent. Comes cheap if you can fab a bit. I dumped mine in front of the pass. side rear wheels for the side oiler look. The downpipe from the busses doesn't fit though.
$350 exhaust from your choice vendor
$125 Pyrometer from hewitt industries
$425 TW chip from total diesel performance
These are just estimates but I am almost possitive on the gauge price. You can get only a few burns on your chip to save some money and get the filter. You can get a piece of pvc 45* street elbow instead of the 4" piece of pipe. That may save some more.

I got the combo, the 4" exhaust, 3" dp, and the s&b intake. I'm very happy with all the equipment. I will say that the 3" dp was a pain to get in there. It'll go, but it took me a 5 foot crowbar, 6 foot 2x4, snapping my buddy's dewault recip-saw in half, and sending an angle grinder through my valve cover to get the old downpipe out. Not my best work! But, definitely worth it in the end.

I agree on the gauges but I only suggested that to keep the cash flow low. The Pyro is nacessary but the boost isn't at this point. The tranny may be a necessary option depending on you driving needs.

i, personally, wouldn't use the s&b intake. i think the 6637 filter will flow more air than any of the intake systems i've seen out there b/c the 6637 filter is wayyyyy larger in size than any other filter out there for these trucks... just my .02
