My right side low-beam is out. Truck was bought used but appears to have the stock wiring setup still intact
What I've checked:
1) new bulb (still not working)
2) fuse for right lowbeam (have power from the output side)
3) plug at the back of the housing (high beam connector has power, low beam does not)
4) wire going into the back of the plug (no power from the wire to the low-beam input side of the plug)
5) pulled the right side battery and fished around with the related wiring harness there to make sure everything seemed tight
Any guidance that this group can provide to aid in my troubleshooting will be greatly appreciated...
I'm bumping this one time up to the top to hopefully get some fresh eyes looking at it on a Sunday that may be able to shed some "light on the subject".. (I know, I promise never to do that again).
There are two relays next to the power steering resevoir toword the fire wall.Pull them one at a time to find the low beam then switch them with each other to see if one is not up to par.
all good suggestions so far but none have panned out.
I did the headlight relay hokey-pokey with no change, the right low-beam still won't light. And the socket connections are clean and look good. In fact, I have no power from the wire going to the socket so it is somewhere before that.
Does the headlight switch have power going to both the right and left or is it one power feed that gets split to the right and left? Any ideas as to whether it could be the switch and how to troubleshoot that?
first off, thanks for all the tips. the combination of them helped me get this fixed.
my problem ended up being a connector on the back of the central junction box (aka main fuse box) where the specific wire for that headlight had backed out of the connector and was no longer connected tightly to the pin. I pushed it back down into place and zip-tied the bundle so that it wouldn't be able to move around on its own again.
Hello,
I have a 2003 Excursion with the EXACT problem you had! Can you please possible explain more where you found the loose wire on the main fuse block? I'm thinking that might cure my issue as well? Would greatly appreciate it! Thanks!
This was a good memory test! That was 12 years and many many many beers ago! And a new truck since then...
But, I definitely recall this issue because it was such a challenging problem. Check your fuse diagram to see if there is a separate circuit for the right and left low-beams. In the case of my old truck there was a separate fuse for each. The right-side low-beam fuse for that 2005 F-350 was in the lower right of the drivers side fuse box. I ended up finding it visually by just a very close inspection of the wires on the back of the box. That's how I saw the loose connection.
Best of luck tracking that down, that one was a bear to track down...
Resurrecting this thread to say THANK YOU! Driver low beam wasn't working. Followed this thread, dropped the fuse panel under the driver's dash, reseated the connector on the lower right back of the junction box, and now the headlight works. So glad to have found rhisbthread to fix this intermittent problem that my truck has had for a couple of years.
