Huh...I've got no cats and a 2½" Flowmaster 40. I've always thought it was a little loud (to the best of my knowledge, judging from the noise reflecting off jersey barriers, going through underpasses, etc.). But I'm 38, and I'm thinking I'm getting to the age where loud exhaust doesn't turn me on like it used to!
On the upside, it DOES feel like I gained a couple horsepower from my butt-o-meter.
Well at first i didnt think i would like the sound and level of noise of straight pipe but the guy who was doing my exhaust kept telln me just to give it a try and see what i thought and after trying all the other options he had they didnt seem like there was much difference between what i already had and when i gave in to straight pipe i liked it because it had such a different sound and it wasnt as loud as i thought it would it be
I left the pipe the way it was with the flowmaster kit which was 3 inch single pipe exiting behind the rear tire. i thought that would be way to much pipe for straight pipe but the guy doing my exhaust said it wouldnt change anything going down in size and i would do a sound clip but i have no idea how to do that lol
how much louder does the 300 get ditching the carb maniflods? cause i gust have a straight pipe on them and she is still a quiet truck
another question does anyone know a muffler or tricks besides a big exausht tipe to hear the sound at the back of the truck instead of the noise the motor always makes?

The carb'd exhaust manifold is really restrictive, so not a lot of exhaust can get through them. I just finished switching mine out for EFI manifolds and before I did, I had more engine noise than exhaust noise. After the switch, I can almost never hear the engine, but the exhaust roars nicely. I would imagine it would be even moreso with a straight pipe as I have a cat and a muffler.
yah i always knew the carb version was small but didn't know the efi would make a sound diffrence just milage and power from the added flow i the the sound came from a longer maniflod
is it true the longer a header/manifold the deeper the sound?
