I checked out jasper they had 3 different options (really 2 because mine does not have a.i.r. tube) one was just below 2 grand and 1 was just above 2 grand. found a sight called automotix and they only wanted 1150.00 I don't know what the diff is they both come with warrentys, but hey now I know in case my 300 gives up the ghost.
You can also purchase remanfactured engines with warranty from your local parts store such as Advance or Autozone. I am not sure how their engines are, but I purchased a reman c6 from them and i haven't had any issues out of it.
Ford Industrial still produces the 4.9 (new castings). Our warehouse tug we tow helicopters with is a 2007 model year with a 4.9 industrial engine.
Thanks for that information Heavy_Metal. I wasn't aware of that, but I'm glad to hear these are still being made in some shape or form because they are such great motors.
If you can find a reliable machine/speed shop in your town, get some estimates from them. This way you have cam/compression/port work options you wouldnt have otherwise.

Are you sure about that? Last I heard Ford dropped all their pushrod power products engines in 2000-2001, and offer the mod motors in their place. A quick look at Ford Power Products online shows only the 4.2l v6, no 300-6.
There is another company that bought out the rights and casting tech for the industrial 4.9, here's the info on that: http://www.hydrogenenginecenter.com/...-Oxx-Power.pdf
Looks like if your engine is green, it's an Oxx Power engine.
On edit:
Check the gofastparts.com, they are in redlands, ca, great prices & service on crate engines. If they don't have access to the 4.9, it might be just as cheap to go with a 302/351 since with the exception of the pcm and injectors, its basically a drop in.
