Ok, I just replaced my left side hub assemblt last week. New yellow o ring and a new auto hub(ebay) that does go fron the lock to auto position. My right side auto hub is frozen in auto. Ans i DID NOT replace the hub assembly on that side so it was untouched. So i tried my 4wd yesterday and did the ac trick, ye it started to blow out the deforst and no 4wd.. so i guess that means a vacuum leak. So my next this is I may as well go to the Warn Hubs. So if i plug the vacuum lines like i read here and install Warn premium hubs, I still use the selector in the cab for 4 hi or 4 low correct? I also need to get out of the truck to lock /unlock the hubs first. (like my old f-150) So do i have to like rool foward/ backward to unlock them and all that stuff to engage disengage them. I think this will be a lot easier and cheaper way to go than trying to fix my vacuum leaking hubs. (and buying new ones too) thanks Jeff
Your on the right track, get rid of those factory hubs, plug the vacaum line, take the nipple off the axle, go to napa and get a plug, and when you want four wheel get out and lock hubs and select 4hi or 4lo, and yes they will unlock when you select free wheel, 2hi.
So i dont have to like back up to unlock them etc to go back to 2wd etc? Also, i think this will be the more reliable way to go right? right now I have 3 auto hubs and 2 are frozen, even if i rebiuld them like guzzle shows how to i still have the vacuum leak going on. So then i would have to either replace the seals on both sides or somehow locate the leak. But if i go with the Warn Hub setup all i would have to do is install them and plug the lines and all should be good. I think this would be the least painful way to go and i wont have to deal with the vacuum problems again... thanks Jeff
ok thats what i wanted to hear, now can anybody tell me where i can get the best price online for these hubs Warn part # 38826 and do i need the extra locking ring to keep them tight? jeff
The only difference between these and the premiums is the slector dial. Plastic vs. metal. personally I like the metal look, but I liked the $90 savings even better... The guts are the same - all metal. Way better than the OEM plastic. No adaptors or extra pieces required.
wellI just ordered my new Warn Premium Hubs. Got them at streetsideauto.com. Found it on pricegrabber. And today was the last day to get 20% off order. So i got the set for 165.59 total. cant beat that deal. So if you looking head on over to their site today. Jeff
For anyone considering the Warn solution vs. the OEM ESOF solution, have no concerns with Warn. My '99 has over 250k mi on the clock & my vacuum leak was caused by a faulty ESOF solenoid. Considering the OEM hubs are half plastic and the pneumatics were probably half dry-rotted after that many years/miles, I went with the Warn premiums. Unless you're barefoot in the dead of winter a lot and find it inconvenient to get out of the cab to set the hubs when 4WD is needed, those Warns click lock into place sooooooo easily and work flawlessly. At a fraction the price for OEM hubs, consider the Warns a cost effective upgrade to one of Ford's mediocre designs.
