Auto locking hubs

Well I think I finally have to break down and change the hubs to manuel. I went with a friend and put up a deer blind. Well i put it in 4x4 and during this, I think the 4x4 light blue out. It still goes into low range. Anyway, When I put it back in 2wd, I thought everything was fine untill I made a right turn. It felt like the tire was going to break off. I tried several times to get it to unlock and it would not. Tomarrow Im getting the WARN locking hubs

do believe that you have to drive in reverse for 10 feet or so to disenguage thehubs after you've put the selector in '2wd'

Sounds more like a transfer case problem. If the transfer case is in 2wd drive the hubs being locked or not should not cause drivetrain bind.

I got in it this morning and the 4x4 light came on. Then switched it to 2wd and was fine, probably just stuck due to not using it enough. Its fine now but have been wanting to put manuel hubs anyway

He still has to determine if it is the transfer case or the hub being locked in. If the hub is locked in you will get a bind, if the hub isnt locked in but the transfer case is turning the front axle you can get a different bind on the wheels.

Are you dealing with a Manual transfer case or an electric transfer case? Electrics are known for failing on the shift motor. Both do have issues that are rarer, like worn shift forks' inserts, oil pump failure, wear on the shift cams. I would check to make sure your transfer case is disengaging properly first before blaming the hubs.

Usually people replace the auto hubs because the hubs no longer lock in properly, e.g. come unlocked at the worst possible time, not because they stay locked in.
