Did my "Front Bearing Service" this weekend. After replacing o-rings on both bearing assy and hub, thought the a/c would straighten out and not blow thru the defrost upon locking the hubs. However, that did not help. I think I have narrowed it down the the PVH solenoid. The hubs seem to hold about 12-15 hg of vacuum, so I assume they are not leaking. However, upon unlocking them in auto mode they still stay locked. If I go to "lock" mode on my hub and then back to "auto", they unlock. Also, the hubs are "impossible" to turn by hand....very, very stiff. Is it possible the hub diaphram is shot also? I disassembled them and regreased them and all the internals looked very clean, I can only assume that diaphram has possibly swelled and is causing them to be uncommonly stiff.
Well, it appears that AFTER I wrote this post, I went ahead and searched other forums and it appears that I ended with all the diagnostic answers I need. Heck, I may just go with the manual hubs and plug the lines. I don't mind getting out to lock the hubs. At leat when they are locked they are locked and when they are free they are free.
I stay with manual hubs. If you think you may need them, just lock them before you leave. If you need 4 wheel drive, engage the transfer case and go. When you are out of the area you need 4x4, just disengage the transfer case.
It doesn't hurt anything (except fuel mileage) to drive with the hubs locked and the transfer case in 2H.
[QUOTE=RACERX7775]can anyone get the number for the warn premiums or the mile marker stainless steel hubs for an 01 excursion. thanks.
Just ordered Mile marker hubs from Summit Racing. They were # 449ss. There was a write up on the install but the web page must have expired. Can anyone refresh this write up?? It was posted By BFR250SD
It says something about requiring a conversion kit on the SummitRacing web site to go from auto hubs to the 449SS ones? Is that needed? I like the price of the mile markers much better than Warn!

Ed, I talked to the fella at Summit and he said I did not need a conversion kit . I installed the hubs today, it was pretty simple. Capping the vacuum lines was the hard part, but not too bad. I still wish someone could refresh the write up on this, the pics really helped..
