i have a 84 f-150 with a inline six, i recently purchased 35in swamppers and a 3in body lift. i am looking to convert it from 4x2 to 4x4 and i am wondering what would be the easiest way to do it. how long wold it take? iam pretty handy with a ratchet and think i can tackle the job myself..
Goto the Tech Articles on your right.....see em? Yeah...there....ok...open it up and look for the article i wrote on the swap. 99% give or take is covered in there. If you have any other question...mail me direct. Would be glad to help! Mud-n-ford86(No Email Addresses In Posts!)

Crap, my link didn't work. Look in the 87-96 trucks and you will find the subject titled "Ford's TTB, whats wrong with it?" and you will also find the same title (as i was mentioning in my last post) in this 4x4 section.

hey dan, i checked out your article in tech talk and it was very in depth..what i"m wondering is, is the process just as easy to do on a pre 80 modle 150.?..say a 79?.. i"m thinking about doing the same thing to my 79, i have all the parts but i want to use my 2wd frame cause it"s in much better shape than the 4wd frame...some guy told me it"s basically impossible, but if it can be so simple with the 80 and up 150"s than why not the 70"s?... i think it would be easier with the soild front axles....thanks ..paul..
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 22-May-02 AT 10:09 PM (EST)]Paul,
Well i thought i posted a reply to this along time ago....but i guess it never went through. Anyway....i really dont have clue if you could swap a front drive axle in the front of a pre '80 truck. I know you can almost bolt up leafs to anything....just a matter of steering geometry, ya-da ya-da....what you maybe able to do is find a Dana 60 or...gulp.....ten bolt out of a chev.....well...heck..they ran Dana 44's too! haha.....there you go! You would have that nasty un-Ford 6 lug pattern! BUT i do know where i can get a 9" axle that has the axles already drilled to work with the swap....well it was for a Jeep......but who likes Jeeps! Bronco was first! alright i have ranted enough! Mail me and ill help ya the best i can....
OKOKOKOK....i noticed it too......the pumkin is on the wrong side...so yea...you would have to figure out a way to run a chev t-case......but they also had the NP 205.....that would work nicely! Or jsut get a D60 and do it!

hey dan, thanks for the info..i to thought of the chev front end idea, but just could"ent bring myself to do that to a ford..lol.. the good news is i found a complete running gear resting on a mint 76 frame everything was there except for the 302( which i"ve since installed)..i just swapped my cab over to the 76 running gear....belive it or not, i paid a paltry sum of $50.00 canadian for the running gear!!. ya just don"t get those kinda deals everyday..lol.. ....paul...
