A couple 49 questions

Hi all haven't been in this section much so I'll start with a pic.

But I do have a couple quick questions
1- Glove box how or what holds them shut mine just flops down in the open position?
2- starter button The motor will not turn over like it is supposed to with the button start. however if I press the button on the soleniod the motor turns over fine. Also I have tested the starter button itself and it checked out good I also checked the thin wire that runs from the soleniod to the starter button. It checked out fine. (guess I should mention I converted it to 12V neg ground)

So is all the stater button does is it grounds out the soleniod when depressed?

Thanks in advance for any help much appreciated.

Beautiful truck!!! Man I really like that Mercury side trim.

There was a thread about this awhile back, the glove box spring anyway. The system won't let me post the pics again so here is a link to the thread;

I can't help you with the starter button. I've heard that they were wired both ways; 1, they grounded the solenoid, and 2, they powered the solenoid so I'm not sure which is which.

My starter button is now mounted down on the floor boards and controls a line lock solenoid.....lol

1. the door springs should provide enought pressure to keep the glovebox door shut

2. If you changed to 12 volt, do you have continuity from start button the starter solenoid ground ? I changed out my strat button to later year style, 53 so my solenoid gets power through start button.

Nice truck by the way !

Up til '53, the stock solenoid was grounded by the starter button. Many solenoid replacements sold nowadays are the 53-on style, which use battery power to energize the solenoid. So if you have changed your solenoid as part of the 12v conversion, it may be the later style even if it only has one small terminal. Check for battery voltage at the small terminal; if it's there, then the solenoid is looking for a ground to energize. If you jumper from the battery cable (+) to the small terminal and it cranks, it wants power to energize.
