Programmers improve auto trans functions?

Do the programmers from DP-Tuners and TW improve, change or customise any tranny shift functions? I've been told they help as far as keeping the tranny in OD - or is that simply because of the power increase requiring less throttle?

Thanks everyone.

to a point they can. they can change strategy and pressure but to get a good shift and reliability you need to replace hard components

When hard parts are required I'll be stepping up to something better. I thought maybe I could improve a bit on what I have until that dredded day.

Thanks, coon.

a simple shift kit goes a long way. and on top of that, custom trans tunes such as "the cure" you will have a sweet shifting trans as long as you dont overpower it with ponies and torque

all i run is a shift kit in mine with over 150k on it, i would estimate the truck to put out no more than 300 horses and 550 ft lbs of torque. never dynoed it but it runs ok. i tow frequently and run it hard, trans shifts great, never slips.

To answer you orginal question, yes chips and programmers can change line pressure and shift points. Custom chips like TW and DP do it much better.

With all the tranny talk around here I've never heard a mention of The Cure.

tim mentioned it and posted a link, however "the cure" is not a shift kit. while it is a very good design and i really like what it can do, it does absolutly nothing for shift firmness or patterns. "the cure" and a shift kit together would be really neat.
