IP Question

How can you determine if your IP has been turned up. I have a Banks, so assumed it has been turned up, but the only time I get black smoke is when I have a heavy load and really get on it. It seems that I should have more power.

well unless you can get ahold of the PO ( previous owner ) and have them tell you how much it was turned up theres no way of knowing, and since it has a turbo it has to have been turned up. if you have a banks sidewinder im guessing it has been turned up about 2 flats if you can only get smoke on a pull... try and turn it up a flat if you want more smoke but that sounds about perfect

Thanks for the info. When I pull my fifth wheel, I can't hardly get it to smoke. I can only go about 55-60 down the road. It was suggested to turn the IP up, but not sure what is too much if I don't know what has been done. Should I expect more performance from a 6.9? I thougth I could go down the road a little better.

the 6.9L is an extremely capable platform theres a reason that the prototype of the 6.9L ultimaxx is pushing claimed 425 hp and 750 ft/lbs of tq but of course thats twin turbo

You didn't mention whether you have a pyrometer with your Banks. If not, I would suggest you install one BEFORE you turn up the IP. You should have one anyway. EGT's are VERY important. Work on your intake and exhaust. You will find improvements.

Sorry for the post. I see in a previous post you answered my question. (Guess I should read posts from old to new and that wouldn't happen) Anyway, I love my Banks and the ram air (Dave Sponagle design) made a significant difference. I was able to turn up the IP some more.
