my dad always told me 2 pumps on a cold day. 1 pump in the morning if it's not cold. and then just pump it 1 time so it's not so hard to start. so, more than 2 can flood it?

If the motor is warm, then yes, more than 2 will most likely flood it. It will at least make it somewhat hard to start. This is assuming the accelerator pump is working correctly.
Do your self a favor and just install a manual choke, takes 10 bucks and 30 minutes and you'll be better off for it, that way you'll always know the exact position of your choke, you won't be dependent on the fickle nature of an electric choke, with a manual choke you'll learn over time exactly where you need to set it to suit your current conditions i.e. engine temp, ambient air temp, etc. electric chokes are for grannies lol

Yea, I've heard about a lot of guys doing this. I think a manual choke might be in my future!
i think its all personal to each vehicle. i dont really know if theres a broad method that always works. I KNOW my truck. i can always get it to crank no matter flooded, jjust out of gas, cold, hot, ext. i also know that i DO NOT KNOW my moms 67 Stang. She swears up and down that 3 quick pumps does it. as far as i no thats the opnly thing that cranks it and it always instantly wrx if thats the method you use. if i do wat i do wen i drive my truck, it doesnt wrk in that car.
Mines usually a pump or 2 cold and you can bump the starter form there. Hold to the floor if you flood it. 3 pumps cold will not flood it but 2 will work.
Or for people in California that are required to have smog checks, and want to be able to register their vehicles.
Very true, the hot-air choke with electric assisst was introduced as an emissions item. It was added to open the choke faster. So really you can think of it as electric chokes spawned from smog equipment.
