ive got a 74 f100 my problem is i shifted into low and when i tried to shift back into high it wouldent go that was the first time now same thing shifted into low and went to shift back to 2wd than it was stuck in nutral i got under an shifted it by hand now the lever is stuck over to the left and up and seems to be in two high which should be straight down does anybody have some help or be able to give a diagram of the linkage so i can fix this problem
please help
When it gets stuck, put it back in gear and move about a foot or so. Sometimes, aleast with mine, it kinda jams up and moving a little bit will free it up.
i just got it working it the first time it was stuck in nutural so i got under neath and pushed the linkage by hand and it worked fine this time same thing except when i pushed the linkage i managed to slip the linkage out of wack so i could not shift it at all luckly it slip into 2wd and not low as i had a thirty mile drive home so do you think maby the linkage maby rusty and gummed up causing it to not syncro right i cleaned it fair and sprayed lube all over the linkage anything else i should try i cant have this happen up in these oregon woods its a long walk out
thanx paul
I agree with the other guys. Sometimes the T-case will just bind up. Move the truck a little, either forward or back, and try it again and it will most likely shift for ya.
Also, if possible, get the truck on a flat and level surface. I find it's less likely to bind this way as opposed to being on a slope.
So as you shift from say 2 to 4, or 4 to 2 before you can get in gear it gets stuck in neutral. I think thats what your saying right? If so, make sure there is nothing your linkage is gettting stuck on, and oil the hell out of it.
May be a stupid question, but are you sure you T-case is a strait up and down shift?, Some of them can either go off to the left or right to get into different gears which may be why its getting stuck in neutral from the shifter but you can shift it by hand underneath..... When it gets stuck just move it left or right while trying to shift into gears.
i oiled it real good and it worked ok today and it does go fowardand to the left to go into low lock i checked the linkage out and looks dirty and maby a little rusty so hopfuly the oil wil do the trick every thing else looked good
