Hello,
So I've been tracking down oil leaks forever on this truck. So after alot of degreaser and searching I think I have found 2 possibilities where its comming from. Once is the corner of the oil pan where it meets the transmission on the drivers side, or a small plug right by where one of the transmission bolts are. I used a 5/16 wrench to tighten it down, and also tightened the pan bolts a little. I got about 2 1/2 turns out of the pan bolt on the corner. If the pan ends up being the final culprit is it possible to changer the oil pan seal without lift the motor up of the cross members. I was looking at it today and it looks like that would have to be the case. Any thoughts on this?
someone just posted on this today. The normal way to do this is to pull the motor but some people have cut the cross member and welded it back in to do the job mixed reviews on that someone else will chime in
Im positive that its coming from the back of the engine. I have replaced the h-pop rings, pedestal o-rings, oil line o-rings. The valley is bone dry front and back. I double check my install of the pedestal in case I pinched something and everything was perfect. EBPV actuator is oil free. I rebuilt it while it was out as well. Can any one tell me what the little square plug is for?. I tightened it down just in case it was the culprit. It was loose. Its right above the transmission bolt that goes to the engine , the 9' o clock position I guess. I know thats vague, I'll try to get a picture of it.
You can pull your inspection plate off and look to make sure it is coming from the bottom of the engine. You can also go to napa and get some oil dye. It will make even the smallest leak stand out. Wouldn't pull the oil pan until everything else is eliminated.
My HPX cross over was dribbling. How i found out was it was dripping a spot or two under the TC inspection cover. The oil ran down the back off the heads and onto the bell housing and down. But turned out an easier fix for me. If that is not the case for you and the same area, Yup, Pull inspection cover might be rear seal? I would look up high though. The oil finds a way down in the slightest tiny valley.
The Oil Pan itself is in fine condition, zero rust anywhere. I am going to pickup a oil detector leak kit at Autozone. Im really hoping its not the oil pan seal.
Also while I was looking for my oil leak, I found the problem with my 4x4. The vacuum lines. One is broken. Is there an upgraded version of these somewhere? Or should I just replace them with the rubber ones.
The semi-rigid plastic lines or rubber hose from the hub to the frame? Hub to frame, I replaced mine with small diameter fuel hose that flexible, but won't collapse on itself when vacuum is applied. I looked for SS braided lines, but the small ones I found were only good for positive pressure.
