Engine lift plate
You can build a plate if you want to do a lot of work and feel like you've created some piece of art, but otherwise just get a couple long head bolts and lift it with chains and hooks.

Yes, I have lifted a 239 and 4 sp tranny together with a lift plate (carb mounted 3 bolt)
several times, with no problem.
Make sure you use some good sized washers, and make sure the bolts are tight!

I know the numbers and experience say it "can" be done, but three 1/4" bolts doesn't work for me, to support maybe 700 lbs.?? If the hoist jerks when lowering, the load multiplies several times. Julie's rig looks good to me, or using a lifting plate that replaces the intake manifold. You have to weigh the risks...
