EFI lift plate to remove engine?

hi

I need to remove my 351 from the truck but it doesn't have any lifting eyes anymore. Has anyone used one of those lifting plates that bolt on to the efi inlet manifold in place of the upper manifold to remove an engine? Is the manifold and the 6 x 5/16" bolts strong enough?

regards

you can lift it from a grade 8 bolt threaded into the intake bolt, compensated for the extra length needed to accommodate the chain link (I don't like doing this). motors that don't have eyes from the factory, I try to lift from a head bolt. you could also fab a loop to bolt onto 2 intake bolts, and just stash the loops in the shop so you can use them later. again, with the said "fabbed" loop, you want to use bolts long enough to compensate for the loop's thickness.

Take a chain and run intake bolts through it on opposite corners. I've lifted 460s like this (700-800 lbs) with no issues. Or you can run bolts through the chain into threaded places on the heads (like where accessories usually bolt up).

I personally wouldn't lift one of these motors by the intake... especially if you plan to use the intake again, just remove the upper portion and attach a piece of chain diagonally(front to back) between the corners of the heads using the accessory mounting holes which exist on both ends of the heads.

This is how I just did my truck but I used a load leveler. That way there is 4 mounting points using the front and rear accessory mounts on the heads. Lifts the engine with no twisting or funny angles.
