So yesterday I go to Napa and pick up a water pump and a 203 deg. thermastat, but couldn't do anything because of Ike. Today I finally get the pump out and notice that the old one has a seperate peace from the lower hose and bolts to the pump, where as the new pump is just one peace. I figured this was probably just an update and didn't think much of it. So I go to switch out the top fitting on the pump that connects to the heater hose, well the hole is too small! I ran over to Auto Zone to see if one of their pumps has the correct size hole and to also get a temp sensor. No luck on either. The Hole was too small on theirs also, and the sensors had the wrong connection type (mine is the threaded type). Does anybody have any suggestions or facts that I need to know?
I think there is a difference in waterpumps from the 94.5 and the 96 I was talking to another member who had the same problem as you and I searched for the thread and can,t seem to find it.
Bet your waterpump has been changed before the one you are explaning that you took off with the lower pipe that bolts on is aftermarket the original should be one piece like the one you just bought maybe go back and see if they list a pump for 96 97 model and bring that pipe fitting with you to see.
The lower hose issue is no problem. I have replaced two peice with one piece before. The thermostat workings are different between 94.5/95 and the 96/97. I suppose it possible the fittings are different as well.
Will the lower hose still hook up to the non-bolt on inlet?

Yes it still will fit I guess I worded that wrong I was just pointing out that the one that he took off of the truck was an aftermarket one and there is a possibility that it is from a 96 97 model perhaps.
Yes there is a problem with your thermostats. The long one is for the 96 and up WP and the short is for a 94.5/95 WP. So at some point someone put a 96 and up WP on your 95 which is no problem as long as you have the right stat in there with it. Its also possible that your 95 is a late 95 and has the later style WP on it. I would order a WP for a 96 or 97 but you will have to order the 203 stat for that pump from http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=186
The old thermostat in the old pump does not touch anything inside the pump. When I put it in the new pump it actually touches the inner hole and requires you to compress the spring to get the whole thermostat to seat down all the way.
the thermostat shouldn't touch anything other than the sealing surface when installed. When the thermostat opens then the bottom disc goes down and seals off that bypass port under the thermostat.
