I'm sorry, but as hard as I can try I cant spot more than one of the stake pockets in that pic... MAYBE two... I can see where a third would go, but who's to say this truck couldnt have come with 3 pockets? I just dont know that that's enough to go on... Besides, unless I was high on somethin (I wasn't) I just dont know how I could have possibly mistaken it a long bed for a short bed when that was my main point of lookin at the truck...
After lookin at it awhile, it looks to me like the axle may actually be located further towards the rear than on a normal shortbed... there looks to be less overhang... that could explain why the spacing looks wrong... similar to the wreckers referenced earlier...
I'm thinkin more and more that this may have been an aftermarket conversion... the VIN shows the long wheelbase... i dunno... its been a state govt vehicle its entire life so far.
If you really want to know, search for numberdummy on this site. Send him an e-mail with the vin number. I will see if he can take a look at this thread and he can clear up any confusion on this. I just hate to see you disappointed if it is a longbed. They are still hard to find with a good set of dually fenders in these years. The fenders are different from the regular flareside trucks so I would venture to say it is a good find.
If the price is right (and it will be if I get it), I'd be happy with a longbed too... I need one of them anyway (although I was looking more for a crewcab)...
Okay, here's what I came up with.. try out this theory:
This truck (theoretically) started out life as a regular 8' bed F-350 dually (or just a chassis cab). Then someone (probably Ford) chopped off part of the rear frame and bolted on a special short bed with dually fenders.
It could have been built without the rear frame section in the first place too... it hasnt had another frame section welded on and the axle is in or very close to the original location.. I know this because I got under the truck and looked.
Either Ford did this, or a quality conversion company (think Centurion), or else whatever govt agency (I think aggies) that had it did a very very nice conversion...
Whoever did whatever, less rear overhang is music to my ears.
Bear with me Kyle, I'm still learnin how to get around here... I'll figure out how to find the numberdummy before too long...
By the way, 1FTJF35L1GNA45307 is the VIN if you wanted look it up... I personally love VIN searchin but maybe I'm just weird... fleet.ford.com didnt give me much, and autocheck didnt turn up much either... Poor truck seems to have died about 7-8 years ago though...
I would use the tape, but the truck is 150-200 miles away and I cant get away again to see it before it goes on auction... hopefully I'll get it then though...
I'm still 100% sure its a shorty, but I've sure been 100% wrong before!
haha I just found out what that little heart does... wouldnt a plus or a thumbs or somethin up be a little more, um, tough? I mean this is a Ford truck site... You know, built Ford tough??? Haha oh well I guess it serves its purpose...

I did this myself and I haven't received any more emails.
