swapped trannies last spring and rebuilt has worked like a top. Just recent when truck totalt stops the od starts to blink than when given a touch of fuel pedal stops the blinking . od does not blink when in motion and works through all gears up and down.
This am the od light starting blinking when in motion and when I reset by removing batt cables and gave over an hour run the blinking has stopped all but when the truck " fully" stops than blinks , shot of fuel , than gone again.
Suppose I need to buy a code reader but does this sound like a bad ground somewhere? also if a poster can point in direction of total procedure to test relay and gp it would be appreciated (thought there was a sticky topic on this but cannot find). thx for any help.......
Mine does the same thing right now. My tach sensor is not picking up at lower rpms sometimes and will cause my OD light to flash, Once my tach starts working again, it will quit flashing. It shifts great and its been like that for 1 1/2 years for me. Its just comming to a stop or at idle it will flash.
If your tack is not responding in low rpm all the time or is bouncing around or not getting a good signal, a new tach sensor will more than likely fix it. The TCM requires a good Tach signal along with the TPS and Speed sensor. The tack sensor is right where you put the oil in on the top of the IP GEAR drive housing. Its big and you can't miss it. Kinda angled towards the drivers side.
Other than that, It would require getting the codes. Hope this helps
Thanks for replies . My truck does not have a tach but our symptoms appear to be the same , strange . Should have mentioned tranny went into safe mode yesterday but did not after I pulled and reset the batt cables. Took it for a 1 hr run yesterday after pulling the batt cables off and another nice run this morning and tranny worked well with od functioning properly also( od light did blink when truck was /stopped/idling only again).
Thx again for help PLC7.3 . You helped pull some tranny #s for me to make sure I had the right replacement tranny last spring and will take your advice and pickup a code reader from wallys world .od light has yet to throw a code since yesterday am so I'm not sure what to think but will have it read when it does next time. cheers guys
Even if your truck does not have a tach on the dash, it will still have a tach sensor on the engine. The E40D's TCM requires an input for it. Good luck.
Guess you can tell i am not so fluent in diesel repair ect to say the least but I am continually learning about this 7.3 with a crash course in the e4od along the route . Will price out sensor and replace next week myself since you already pointed out where it is even located on the engine . good weekend ......
two things will cause your symptom , a tach sensor that ceases to output at idle speed or a bad fipl sensor that the voltage is out of range at idle
you need to retrieve codes first to know where to begin
hold the throttle at wide open before starting the test or you will get a false fipl code
if you get a 11-10-23 thats a fipl code and 11-10-14 is the tach sensor
