I'm trying to find a specific new model 08' F-150. A Ford dealer located a few for me but ONLY gave me the sticker sheet with the vin number but would NOT tell me where the dealer is, only that it's within 150 miles. If I have the vin number CAN I find out WHAT lot this truck is sitting on? Thanks.
However...why bypass the local dealer? You are going to be going back to them for warranty work. And 150 miles round trip is probably about $70-100 in gas anyway. Multiple trips could eat up your savings quickly if a better price is your motivation.
Are you buying this on X-Plan? If not, buy some Ford stock, get an X-Plan PIN from Ford, and you will have a pretty competitive price.
If you are hoping for a better price on your trade in, good luck.
You might also ask this question in the buying advice section, there is some good info there.
Ford has offered this deal to their stock holders for a number of years. But with the market the way it is these days, you can make a better deal without it.

I would agree with this if Art were looking at a truck in the dealer's lot. However, the dealer with whom he is negotiating knows that they've only found one truck which matches his desires, and may think that they have the upper hand in the negotiations. Not being there myself, it's hard to say.
Even if he makes a successful search and locates the dealer who actually has the truck...they've probably gotten a phone call from the other dealer and can probably put two and two together.
But, if Art walks in with an X-plan PIN, the price is fixed.
As I said, a lot depends on the dealers involved, et cetera. If he were looking for a commonly available configuration (say, 2008 Oxford White Lariat SuperCrew), which the dealer knew was easily available elsewhere, then negotiating might wind up with a lower price.
NO phone calls were made. Matter of fact the dealer I went to didn't want anything to do with finding/arranging for this truck to be delivered/sold by him. The price he quoted me was laughable. Dealers are selling the F-150 for $.75 on the dollar now. This clown was nowhere near that %. The truck in question has been sitting there for some time and qualifies for an extra $2K rebate. Still I do NOT know where this truck is. If I did I would e-mail them for their best price.
