Some of you know I'm looking for my Grandfathers 1972 F250 Highboy 4x4. Going through the old papers this past week I found the VIN number written down. F26YAM8xxxx All the VIN codes check out but the 5th digit.
F26 = F250 4x4
Y = 360 engine (yes it was a 360)
A = this is the error, I can not find a A code for a build location which makes me think it was written down wrong. So I know he special ordered it from a dealer in NW Indiana and not sure that helps. But the link below is where I'm pulling my info from.
Looking it over I think the "A" may have been an "H"... the good news is that there were only a hand full of possible location codes Unless the A is correct because it was built somewhere else...
M8xxxx = Oct 1971 build month
So I'm looking to confirm the 5th digit VIN... All the other digits look correct... F26YHM8xxxx is what I think it might be vs F26YAM8xxxx.
I appreciate any and all input and thoughts! Thank you - Shawn
You are correct, grasshaapa. No "A". If the author of the vin scribbles like me it may be one of the following.
H= Lorain
K= Kansas City
N= Norfolk
R= San Jose

Thanks guys! Everything helps move me a little closer. I'm in hot pursuit...

I doubt a truck ordered in NW Indiana (DSO: 41 or 46) would have an R (San Jose CA) as the 5th digit of the VIN
H (Lorain OH) or L (Michigan Truck) would make more sense.
I've got the first 5 seasons on DVD! Akggh akggh, I love it I love it! Lol
I always thought if it was me driving the general lee I would have put some better tires on it. Seems like them duke boys never had enough traction!
As well as the Trans Am that that little Hottie Sally Fields was riding in in the movie I was referencing. Smokey and the Banditt!
EDIT. OOOO. To see Sally Fields back then in some "Daisy Dukes". OOOOOO!

It must be the 3rd Saturday.

That's why in the last seasons they started cutting in a lot of the previous jump scenes.
