I purchased a tilt steering column from a 1979 F-150 and I need to know if someone can tell me what wires do what for the turn signals and cruise control? If I know what wire does what, I can then match it up to my 1965 harness.
My newest Ford service Manual is for a 1975 and my guess is those are not the same.
You're gonna need some detailed schematics to pull that one off, and not just the cheesy ones in Haynes but good ones in a Mitchell's or a factory diagram.
You can grab a multimeter and make your own diagrams.
(Caution: This is what I would do in this situation; it may be wrong or improper)
With the multimeter in continuity (or resistance) mode, check each wire against each other wire (checking for common grounds or power). Probably not much at this point. Then go through each function on the steering column (horns, all light positions, wipers, cruise control - if applicable, key, etc.). Activating a switch will create a closed circuit between two (or more) wires.
A little time consuming, but better to spend 15 minutes figuring out what your steering column is wired up as instead of going off a wiring diagram which may be wrong.
D8TZ13341A .. Turn Signal Switch-Use with Tilt Wheel only / Fits: 1978/79 Bronco & F100/350.
Good luck using this switch on a 1965. I wanted to do the same thing back in 1981, my electrical guy at the dealership said there's no way without major re-wiring.
The column won't work either without making modifications.

It only took about an hour to figure out what wires needed to go where and to get them hooked up. That wire schematic on Auto-Zone's website is half right, as the other half wire colors do not match up with what I have on my steering column.
Steering column wires/ verses wire on 65 harness
Orange/ blue goes to yellow/ black
Green/ Orange goes to green
Green/white goes to green/ white
Light blue goes to light blue
White/ blue goes to white/ blue
Solid yellow is for cruise control
Solid dark blue is for cruise control
I am left with a white wire and a blue with red tracer. The blue/ red is broken off and my guess is for the horn. I have not had my horn working since 1998 and at this point do not care if I do get it hooked up. My guess is the other wire could be for the 4 way flasher. I have not hooked up the cruise yet as I have not gotten the rest of it hooked up to my engine yet. I also need to get a new horn cover as mine is not very good and I have not been able to find a good replacement yet.
I just cut the harness off of my old non tilt steering column and spliced it on to the 79 tilt column. You should have looked into putting it on back in 1981. It is not too late to install it in your 65, unless you are trying to keep it all stock. If you do put it let me know and I will be glad to help out with the wiring. I will post pictures of the column over in the 61-66 section.
