I turned on various libsensors and I watch cpu scaling. with linux I can sit at 500mhz, jumping to 800, only rarely going to the full 1.3g (this is an older hp with an AMD)

with windows - scaled up full time. just to browse.
I have three versions of linux sitting around here somewhere. I never could get on the internet due to not being able to install the drivers for the hardware. I am a nuts and bolts guy not very knowledgeable when it comes to software.

No, I didn't mean to even suggest that, although that was poorly worded on my part. I could have said that 10% of any demographic wouldn't understand what he said either.

Certainly not stalking either... I have been on this forum for a long, long time.

use the link I gave, todays installer uses the same auto sensing code windows does. there is very little hardware on the market without a linux driver. I got the 5 yr old laptop up in a few hours (cuz I installed from the net, not a cd) the 5 yr old laptop that came with XP SP1 and refused to run after XP SP2!!!!

The avergage lifespan of a laptop is about 3 years, and the cpu will get plugged by an almost invisible amount of dust.

Laptops are so cheap now, everyones buying them, but they are not a desktop, and it is not smart to replace a desktop with a laptop.

I have a desktop in my living room for movies and downloading, and it is clogged with dust every month.
