I would write down the serial and engineering numbers and call the ford dealer. they may be more expensive but if they dont have it they will do the leg work to find one for you most the time. I looked for one for mine to and had a hard time finding one.
wasnt trying to be rude, it just makes it easier for us to help you is all.
Personally i would locate a manual Tcase to swap in its place. the pushbutton tcases are notorious for having these problems. you can fix it and run into these issues again in 6months.
Right on. What makes you sure it's the controller? I've seen too many motors and no controllers fail. I did see the shift motor wires ripped from under the rig in a stump patch one time, though.
Normaly I can hear relays click and the trasfercase shifts.
But when it dosen't shift I dont hear nothing. My quess is the dash button or the controler has gone bad.
My big problem is sometimes it works and sometimes it don't. I figure next time it dont work I will have to pull the button off the dash and manualy jump the wires.
If that dont work I can rule out the button.
Also if you take a look at the controler at this link 1983 Ford Bronco Spare Parts picture | SuperMotors.net
You notice a test button and red LED. I read someware on line the test procedure. I cant remember it now. Does anybody know?
I had the 'dead' t-case switch, but I pulled it out of the foot well and found the white button to push for it to start working again. It was a cold snowy day in st louis and I was glad I didnt need the 4WD because it would not have been a nice day. This last winter I have not had a bit of trouble with it even with the more unusual amount of snow, but it was fun plowing through the snow. Look at me bragging about 18 inches of snow where others in this country would call that a light dusting of snow!
I have had the same issue. The control box stopped clicking when I hit the buttons. I had to pull the control mod out and fount the two relays. I desoldered them and brought them to the local electronics store. Got two new ones and soldered them back on the control board. The problem fixed a year later the t-case motor contacts burned out. It was replaced, what a head ache. I was under there with a pair of plyers manualy shifting the thing in and out of 4 wheel. They need to make a manual adapter. Good luck
Just for laffs. If Ford put a manual shift transfercase how could they compete with Range Rover and Hummer?
I dont think many women like to get out of there vehicle, turn there hubs , and then still have to shift the transfercase.

Reason: too many words
Well I finally got around to trouble shooting the transfercase. I checked the motor position sensor and found one circuit in the open position when it should have been closed.
I then pulled out the sensor. Manualy rotated it and rechecked the circuits a again. Every circuit opened and closed as they should. Put everthing back together and now it works!
If this happens again I will just replace the motor/sensor assembly.
I made a video of my trouble shoot. YouTube - Bronco Transfercase
