BFG = mud ball. I got a Chevy 1500 stuck with the A/Ts b/c they couldn't grip though the slop and get ahold of anything decent underneath, they don't clean out for chit. All they do is get ahold of whats on top and never let it go.
I will admit, I spin tires in the mud, but i've never been stuck with them.
Only problem I have is that their, well they are 33's! Too small for anything good.
Only reason I ever get stuck is because of my stinking tires being too damn small.
But for traction, they pwn joo.
And for a helluva lot less.
EDIT:
I apologize for my rant earlier. It won't happen again.
I do however, STRONGLY disagree!
I have never had problems in wet grass, or the MUD I ENCOUNTER here in WASHINGTON state.
TRUCKIN4LIFE: I would love for nothing more than to drive down to Lubbock to get showed up. But with 8mpg, its not happening. Unless your paying round trip gas prices to get to Lubbock. Then i'm in!
EDIT AGAIN:
I have used other tires and are buying some swampers tomorrow. I am not saying these tires are better than mud tires. Hell no they arn't. I'm just saying you guys don't give them enough credit.
Oh, and I will however let you rant the deterioration rate of the sidewalls. Mine are falling apart. You can see the wear in them because there's WHITE under the black.
As for the lug nuts, I don't know what to tell you. Mine are as tight as ever. $60 on chrome lugnuts all round. The only chrome item on my truck. :P
BFG A/T's suck! I have 33x12.50x16.5's on my F-350, the only reason they are on there is because they were there when I got the truck, and I am replacing them before winter, so I don't get stuck! I have had them before on an SUV, and all they do is load up with s#it, and it's like having slicks = no good in the mud, or snow! I will never buy them again, next set will be Swampers.
They are really good winter tires. And I will not change my mind on that. I was pulling people out right and left at the peak. 4 feet of snow and I was plowing through great.
It sounds too me like alot of the people using A/T's are using them on the trucks that they wheel. I'm not going to put a mudding tire on my daily driver. Its a waste of a tire! And big mud tires get less traction on pavement then a normal street tire. ( Less tire is on the ground. )

Make sure you get them balanced good. My last set of 36x12.50 TSL Radials took 9-11 oz. of lead and could not run them on the front. They bounced like a basketball at 65 mph. The front 2 were more round and had 6-8 oz of lead. They were awsome in the mud. Driving 85 miles on the hwy. to get to the mud were I hunt sucked, kind of shaky. I have 35 BFG A/Ts now and it takes alot more RPM to go through what the swampers did and Im ok with that. Maybe the little 33 swampers are round ? Hey Loui3, Hows that front end pulling?? Got any close up shots of that front end in action? I sure would like to see it. What front hubs are you running, auto or manual ?
OK, so we've established that BFG A/T's suck but what about the BFG M/T's? I have a friend who is about to get some and I'm wondering if I should try and convince him otherwise before it's too late.

They work good. But you can find some that work better for less $$$.

I love my BFG m/ts...they came free w/the truck which makes it an even better deal

which ones? the KM or KM2s. KMs are a simple classic design that works, They can be a little loud (depends on what your used to, I run boggers on my offroad truck so they are a lot quieter than them). They arent my cup of tea because I like something better for all seasons on my daily driver, something that can handle wet and icy pavement better. there are also several others with very similar tread patterns (I even had a set of uniroyals several years back that were just about identical). I have seen the bfgs as well as the goodyear wrangler MTs (more so on the goodyears) bulge in the sidewalls but that was on heavy trucks that were overloaded and got beat pretty hard. A bunch of guys I work with are running the new KM2s and say they are really good and super tough, but I noticed they dont last very long. Although they run gravel pretty much all the time (and they arent paying for them themselves either). On another note, I have had nothing but good luck with the DC-FC IIs, good all round traction and last excellent.

Alright guys.... Yes the shovels to suck, but i can verify that they dont automatically slick over and hold on to the mud, they require wheels speed, and alot of it, say your creepin through some deep mud. Better have your wheels speed at 30+ Its easier for the auto guys to do this, but when your driving a manual, not so much that split second it takes to shift is usually enough for the tires to bog down then the motor dies out cause you dont have the rpm's any more. So for me to keep wheel speed up im in second gear at about 4-5k rpm.
Say good bye to that expensive gasoline.
Im not trying to put anybody down or tell anybody that they are retarted, but if you go to a similar size m/t you will have much better luck in general, yea you may get more road noise, but honestly i kinda like it. As a general statement, BFG tires are over priced and usually over rated. Ive heard lots of good things about the bfg M/T's i have even thought about purchasing them. But decided against it. When i finally ditch my shovels i am not sure what kinda tire i will get, probably another a/t just as a road tire.
With my personal expierence with the shovels, im not a big fan, yea you can get through some stuff, heck ive been up to my doors in mud, just about stuck. But i still got out, it took one of my tanks of gas to get out, but i did it.
Wheel speed is a huge factor with these tires... Now that i think of it maybe thats what prozon was refering to but im not exactly sure. Bfg' a/t's are not the worst tire out there, but you can deffinetly get better for the same money or less
Prozon: I would do that, but my pockets aint that deep, it would be cheaper for you to fly out and we can use my tires and my truck, so when you flyin out?
Wheel spin is a big factor. As I like to say, momentum is the key to doing anything off-road.
Only reason I have my A/T's is because I got them from my uncle. He's old and didnt want 33's on his truck. I'm planning to go bigger. Buying some 35' swampers for $75 off craigslist on sunday and then i'm going to go buy some 38' mud tires. (Not sure on brand) for $80 on craigslist.
I <3 Craigslist.
And yes, i'm running an auto transmission with manual hubs. I love my A/T's because they're on a daily driver. I dont have to deal with road noise or anything like that, and if I see a nice little mud hole somewhere I can just pull off and try it out. Maybe someday i'll own a car and be able to build the truck the way I want it for 24/7 wheeling.
It took alot of weight to balance out the tires thats for sure. When I'm driving at city speeds (30mph) the truck does fine when I'm accelerating to 55mph for the hwy around 45mph I get a bumpy feeling but after that the ride is normal but LOUD, I like the sound lol
