leaky up pipes

my donut gaskets are going bad i can see some soot around the joint and think this might explain my bouncy boost gauge. How much is involved in changing them. My guestimate is they are a royal PITA.

your guestimate is correct, they suck royaly. plan on a whoel day if not a little more to fight them and get everything cleaned up. i have never heard of them causing a bouncing boost gauge though, usually thats the gauge itself

Make sure you have a saws all. I had to cut the bolts that hold the pipes to the manifold. And all that work turned out to be a waste because I used the old pipes. Apparently what happens is the pipe also wears and the new gaskets wont seal right.

Good luck

And if you really want to solve the problem the first time see if you can get the up pipes with the bellow in them.

i have found that having extensions and swivels makes this job easier, havin the motor hot for breaking the bolts loose makes it ten times easier, once broke loose you shuold let the motor cool down so you dont scorch your arms

I replaced my exhaust gaskets when I had my turbo off to replace the orings on the pedestal. Is it Necessary to get to remove the turbo to get to the donut gaskets?

You might be able to do it without removing the turbo but if those bolts for top collars are at all stuck it would be easier with the turbo off. I would just plan on pulling the turbo. While its off get rid of the EBPV and actuator on the pedestal.

I have seen them go for about $300.00 but not sure who sells them and I know they are not available for my truck.

The $300 ones are for the SD's and they are different. They are a no go for our trucks unless you get all the SD turbo stuff
