You can add a ground strap yourself very inexpensive. With all the solenoids in today's trannies it is probably not a bad idea. Remember that your tranny and engine mounts are usually insulated with rubber. Make sure your engine has a good ground strap. There are problems when someone replaces a drivetrain and forgets to reconnect the ground to chassis.
I would think that the engine is somehow grounded, wouldn't you? Since the tranny is attached to the engine, doesn't it stand to reason that the tranny is also grounded?
Yes, but with everything connected with gasket/gasket material. Include all of the anti-seize on the bolts and you might not have a solid ground. By "strapping" the tranny case you ensure a good solid ground. Not to mention that you want a ground to be as short as possible.
It's one strap, you'll never see it and it doesn't hurt performance or ground clearance.
You'd be surprised at what a weak (or long) ground can do.
I would put one up on the bellhousing bolts and run it to the engine ground. Why don't you give BTS a call and see if he thinks ot might help? 1-870-422-3673. Even if you don't buy anything from him, if you are willing to hold till he can get to you, I'm sure he will answer your question. They are very busy. I was there and saw no less than 5 stickys that he had to get to call back at any time.
$5 is not too big a deal. I recently put an engine in and forgot the ground strap and it would not start until I installed it. If it is an electronic automatic transmission I would ground it.
