Radiator and Trans fluid

I need some help with something. My cousin owns a 2000 Navigator and he is being told by the stealership that he needs a new radiotor because something with the trans fluid and it getting up to radiator and then leaking. I am not too sure what they are talking about. Does anyone here have some insight into this as i have never heard of it.

Most radiators use the bottom tubes as a transmission cooler. HD tranny use a separate tranny cooler for added capacity.

Sounds like the lower tubes are leaking tranny fluid internally into the radiator.

Check to see if you have metal lines running to the bottom of the radiator. If you have what looks like two radiators, one small and one large, then you probably have a separate tranny cooler and the radiator shop's advice is suspicious.

I think you will find that the tranny cooler lines connect to the driver's side of the radiator

All Expy/Navi use an in the radiator tranny cooler. The separate tranny cooler (used in the trailer towing package) is in addition to the tranny cooler in the driver's side radiator tank.

IIRC, the 'auxillary' tranny cooler (if equiped) will be in front of the main radiator/AC condenser on the passenger side. The Navi may have a another smaller cooler in front of the main radiator/AC condenser on the driver's side. That would be the cooler for the power steering.

What do you mean by a tech diagram?

There are two coolers. One is inside of the radiator and the other is an external cooler. If the cooler in the radiator is leaking there will be transmission fluid in the coolant.
