this is from a pickuptrucks.com review.

The STX is a sportier version of the base XL and offers additional choices in configurations and features without busting anyone’s wallet. Body-colored bumpers and grille surround for a monochromatic appearance and 17-inch alloy wheels for accent distinguish it from the XL. The interiors are similar with cloth seats and hose-it-out black vinyl floor covering, but the STX does offer optional sound systems.

the order of F-150 truck models from basic to most luxury is: XL, STX, XLT, FX4 and Lariat. There's more options in the upper end models.

You should check out the different models to see if any of the extra options or features are worth it to you or not. If you're looking at used 2004 models, then the price differences between the different models is probably not that significant.

From the 2007 model on, there is also the FX2 sport model which looks similar to the FX4 sport model but only 2wd. The FX2 comes with the 4.6L XLT standard features plus the center console, body color bumpers, FX4 style intrument cluster, and some other options..

Well, I mainly stuck with the 2004 line-up since that was the year he was looking at, but if you want to get technical, the line-up I listed is the correct line-up from 2004 to 2008.

The FX2 is an "option" package based off the XLT.
The Harley, King Ranch, and Limited models are all "option" packages based off the Lariat.

Check out the order guides and you will see...the "core" F-150 models are the 5 I listed.

yeah, but those sound like they are only 4x2 trucks? 4x4's are usually a few more grand.

finalley, $11 or $12k seems fair for that 4x4 truck if it indeed is in great condition with the low miles.

Hey Steve, I agree, the $13K is even at a local dealer(which I hate to frequent), but it does look like a nice truck. I'm just reluctent to buy from around Cleveland (rust belt), when I can check out from Ariz., N.M. area. Just afraid to pull the trigger.....

they were 4x4's with around 60-70 thousand miles. probably higher mileage than what he is looking for though. i wasnt suggesting looking around if you really want that truck. I would pay 11 or so for it but not 13.

I recently bought a 04 F150 extended cab 4x4 bright red STX with the exact same options that you just listed with 73,000 miles for $9995 from a local dealer. Great truck, i love it, vinyl floors dont bother me , easy to clean. just some thought.
